Williford Lee Faile

Williford Lee Faile, 85, of Lancaster, S.C., passed away, Sunday evening, May 29, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in the Charlesboro community of Lancaster County, S.C., he was a son of the late George Lee Faile and Wilma Newman Faile.

Mr. Faile served his country in the US Army as a military policeman and was stationed in the United States and abroad in Hamburg, Germany. He protected the citizens of Lancaster County for 28 years as a law enforcement officer with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, serving as Sheriff from 1984 until his retirement in 1997. He was a recipient the distinguished South Carolina Order of the Palmetto award and was inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame in 2018. He was a faithful member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and loved traveling across the state and country. Mr. Faile enjoyed his morning coffee group at Herchek’s with his friends, telling stories and solving problems of all proportions. Most importantly, he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy Thompson Faile, three sons, Williford “Buddy” Faile, Jr. (Donna, daughter-in-law of 38 years), the Honorable Barry Faile, current Sheriff of Lancaster County (Crystal), and Michael Faile (Julie); eight grandchildren, Bailey Threatt (Joseph), Sara Ann Faile, Hunter Faile, Connor Faile and his fiancée, Carsyn Saverance, Kelsey Faile and her fiancé, Austin Baker, John Michael Faile, Austin Faile and Annalynn Faile; a great grandson, Brentley Baker, and a sister, Mary Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Linward Faile, Billie Knight, Leone Steele, Joe Faile, Virginia Rollings, Robert “Sambo” Faile, and Martha Watts.

The family will greet friends, Wednesday morning, June 1, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Hyde Park Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Mr. Faile’s funeral service will be conducted Wednesday morning, June 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the sanctuary of Hyde Park Baptist Church. The Revs. Charlie Simpson and Larry Helm will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park with flag presentation by Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
