Funeral services for William Melvin Dixon, 84, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2011, in Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Hartsville, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Steve Hartsell will officiate.

Mr. Dixon died Friday evening, May 6, in Springdale Healthcare, Camden. Born in Hartsville, he was the son of the late Cord and Alice Odom Dixon. He was retired from Springs Industries and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Mr. Dixon served in the United States Army during World War II.

Surviving are his wife; Annie Mae Stevens Dixon, a daughter; Barbara Johnson and her husband Willie Runt of Hartsville, 2 sons; Roger Dixon and his wife Debra of Kershaw and Leonard Dixon of Lancaster, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 sisters; Azalee Anderson of Semmes, AL., Doris Mellons of Kannapolis, NC, Carol West of Kannapolis, NC, Shirley Wayne (Harold) of Harstville, and a brother; Everette Dixon (Clara) of Kannapolis, NC. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers; J.C, Laverne, Pete and Heyward Dixon, 2 sisters; Mary Dixon and Annie Ruth Wilks and a great grandson; Zachary Dixon.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 8, from 5:00 to 7: 00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 1242 Jones Road, Kershaw.
