William E. 'Bill' Few

William Eugene Few, seventy-nine of Liberty Hill, South Carolina passed away Thursday afternoon, February 6th . He is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Hazel Ray Few, and sons Marty, Stephen, Joel, Scott, and Chris, and daughter Suzanne. The family will receive visitors from 4:00-6:00 PM Saturday, February 8th at the Baker Conference Center located at 105 N. Minor Street in Kershaw. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 9th, 2:30 PM at Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Clemson Alumni Association, 201 Sikes Hall, Clemson, S.C. 29634. Coach “Bill” Few will always be remembered for his winning record. Billy Few grew up in the mill village in Rock Hill and graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1954. He excelled in football, basketball, and track& field, and was state champion in the javelin in track & field. Due to his extraordinary athleticism, Bill was selected to play in the 1953 basketball All Star Team, and played in the football North/South All Star Game, and Team Captain Few quarterbacked the Bearcats to the 1954 AAA State Championship. Billy Few went on to Clemson University on football and basketball scholarships, and in his junior year played in the 1958 Orange Bowl. In 1959, Coach Few started his legendary football coaching career. He coached at York, Kershaw, Pageland, Hudgens Academy, and North Central high schools. He was head coach and Athletic Director for twenty-six years compiling a 221-68-3 career record with three State Championships, eight Upper State Titles, and twelve Conference Titles. He Served as the Head Coach(1974) and the Assistant Coach (1971) in the Shrine Bowl, Head Coach (1971) and Assistant Coach (1966) of the North/South All Star Game. He was named State Coach of the Year 1964, 1966, 1970, 1972, 1976 & 1984. Coach Few was inducted into the York County Sports Hall of Fame and the South Carolina Coaches Hall of Fame.
