Wesley Minton Phillips, Jr., 87, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Lancaster Health and Rehab, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was a son of the late Minton Wesley Phillips, Sr. and Deanie Robinson Phillips. Mr. Phillips retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church, Abney Masonic Lodge # 211, a Shriner and an avid Gamecock fan. Mr. Phillips also served his country in the United States Army.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Carol Russell Phillips, 2 daughters, Karen P. (Eddie) Coates and Susan P. (Chris) Borgersrode all of Kershaw, S.C.; 4 grandchildren, Lance Coates, Joseph (Mindy) Coates, Jessica (Daniel) Faulkenberry and Christen Borgersrode; 7 great grandchildren, Grant, Ella, Aubrey, Makenzie, Russell, Wesley and Emmitt; a special sister, Catherine (Calvin) Blackmon and 2 sisters-in-law, Frankie Phillips and Myrtis Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donnie Phillips and J.W. Phillips: 4 sisters, Ethel Lucas, Dot Brown, Faye Phillips and Joyce Watts and a brother-in-law, Mickey Russell.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Phillips may be made in his name to Kershaw Second Baptist Church, 7737 Kershaw Camden Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 or Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be conducted, Tuesday afternoon, November 30, 2021, at 2:00 o’clock p.m. in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. The Revs. Jamie Rodgers and Dr. Jason Moss will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.
The Phillips family will greet friends, Tuesday, November 30, 2021, prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 o’clock p.m. in the church gymnasium and other times at their home.
