Walker "Dub" Gainey, Jr.

Walker “Dub” Gainey, Jr., age 79, of Bishopville, S.C. passed away, Sunday morning, January 14, 2024, at Carolina Pines Hospital, Hartsville, S.C. Born in Jefferson, S.C., he was a son of the late Walker Gainey, Sr., and Sadie Cassidy Gainey.

Walker loved to fish, watch wrestling and western movies. He was a practical joker and an Elvis Presley fan.

He is survived by his brother, Benny Gainey of Bethune, S.C.; 4 sisters, Lila Shephard of Conyers, GA, Evelyn Hammond of Thomson, Ga, Pat Carnes of Lancaster, S.C. and Jean Farmer and her husband, Larry of Kershaw, S.C.; 2 special nieces, Terry Moore of Georgia, and Stacy Collins of Bethune. He is also survived by numerous nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death y 3 sisters, Reba Autrey, Ola Eason, and Wanda Humphrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday evening, January 16, 2024, from 5:00 o’clock P.M. to 7:00 o’clock P.M. at BAKER CONFERENCE CENTER, 105 North Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, January 17, 2024, in the sanctuary of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 1616 McBee Highway, Jefferson, S.C. 29718. Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
