Voncille B. Jenkins

Voncille “Vonnie” Bowers Jenkins, age 92, of Lancaster, SC, passed away Saturday morning, September 23, 2023, at her home. Born in the Fork Hill community of Heath Springs, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Connie Bowers and Pauline Hinson Bowers. She was married to the late Perry Mobley Jenkins. Mrs. Jenkins was a graduate of Buford High School and a member of Fork Hill Baptist Church. She was active in her church with the Sunbeams, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Sunday School, and Children’s Choir for many years. She also enjoyed the Shoebox Ministry through Samaritan’s Purse. Some of her fondest memories were working with Julian and Wynona Cox at Cox’s Dime store and with Myrtle Walters at Buford Elementary School Kindergarten.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Joye Jenkins Whitaker and her husband Donald, and Debra Jenkins Helms and her husband Dennis; a son, Dale Jenkins and his wife Leslie; her sister Carol Neal and her husband Rev. Steve Neal; and daughter-in-law, Susan Jenkins. She had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and their children. She loved them all. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald “Ronnie” Jenkins and Donald “Donnie” Jenkins; infant daughter, Paula Beth Jenkins; two grandsons Kevin Dale Jenkins and Jamie Jenkins; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Guy Derrell and Bernice Bowers; Larry and Jane Bowers; sister and brother-in-law, Wilsie and Perkins Love; and infant sister Marilyn Bowers; in-laws W.P. and Mary M. Jenkins; brother-in law W.E. Jenkins and his wife, Lou Doris “Toppi” and sister-in-law Marian McManus and her husband, Rev. Keith McManus.

A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Fork Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Dale Walters, Rev. Steve Neal, and Mr. Will Bowers will officiate.

The family will greet friends following the service.

A private burial will be in Fork Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
