Viola Williams Sowell, 90 of Kershaw, SC, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in White Oak Manor, Lancaster. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Walter Joseph and Susan Vincent Williams. Mrs. Sowell was a member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church. She loved working in her yard, cooking, sewing, and gardening. Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Hazel Nelson Sowell; daughters, Carolyn S. Truesdale (Sam) , and Barbara Lewis; son Ronnie Sowell and fiancé, Candace; six grandchildren, Robbie Mobley, Melissa Mobley Burkett (Jeff), Melanie Truesdale Jordan (Troy), Daryl Truesdale (Alison), Ron Sowell (April), and Brad Sowell; fifteen great grandchildren, Alyssa Mobley, Brelyn Burkett, Bryson Burkett, Hunter Jordan, Dalton Jordan, Colin Jordan, Greer Beckham, Gracyn Beckham, Laykin Truesdale, Logan Truesdale, Lane Sowell, Beau Sowell, Colbie Sowell, Cheyenne Blackmon, and Cassidy Blackman; three brothers, Earl (Willie Jean) Williams, Joe (Martha) Williams, and Henry (Edna) Williams. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Sowell and Sara Lane. Funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in Thorn Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Reverends Steve Mackey and Keith Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m. for viewing. Memorials may be made to Thorn Hill Baptist Church, 2587 Kershaw-Country Club Road, Kershaw, SC 29067. Baker Funeral Home is serving the Sowell family.
