A memorial service celebrating the life Thomas Russell Hayes, Jr., 79, of Kennesaw, GA. and formerly of Kershaw, S.C. will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, Nov. 28, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, Kershaw, S.C. The Rev. Keith Coates, pastor of DeKalb Baptist Church will officiate.
The family will speak to friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hayes died Sunday, November 21, at his residence in Kennesaw, GA. Born in Gainsville, GA., he was the son of the late Thomas Russell, Sr. and Lottie B. Hayes. He is survived by his children, Patti Hayes Smith (Paul) of Kershaw, Clyde Russell Rusty Hayes (Cheryl) of Kershaw, Tina Hayes Catoe (Bill) of Camden, Michael A. Hayes of N.C. and Jason Hayes of Kennesaw, GA.; four step-children, Mike Green (Mindy) of Atlanta, GA., Kim Greene White of Fla., Mark Greene (Christy) of Atlanta, GA., and Jody Greene (Jeff) of Atlanta, GA.; one brother, Charles S. Hayes (Sadie) of Nashville, Tenn; two sisters, Ms. Gladys (Lat) Wilson of Marietta, GA. and Ms. Catherine Ingram of Miami, Fla. ; twenty-one grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Pat Hayes; a sister, Ms. B.C. Gowder, and a granddaughter, Holley Elizabeth Smith. Mr. Hayes was retired from Lockheed Aeronautical Inc. and a veteran of the US Air Force. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
