Sybil Gardner Smith, age 88, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and formerly of Kershaw, S.C., passed away on Saturday evening, June 1, 2024, at Summerville Community Hospice House, Summerville, S.C. She passed away peacefully and entered into Heaven.
She was born in Kershaw, S.C. to the late D. Frank Gardner and Mayo Byrd Gardner on December 31, 1935. Mrs. Gardner was a former secretary for the Lancaster County Administration. She was a graduate of Flat Creek High School. She enjoyed painting and ceramics. She was a member of Socastee Baptist Church.
A private burial service will be held in Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
A memorial celebration service will be held in July for family and invited close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church, 3737 Victory Road, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 in her memory.
She is survived by her son, Mitchell Smith and his wife, Ashley; 3 grandchildren, Erin Dorf and her husband, Zach, Boyd Smith, and Mary Claire Smith with one great-granddaughter, Selah Dorf; her sister, Frankie Phillips and two brothers, Randall Gardner and his wife, Libby and Douglas Gardner and his wife, Harriet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd Smith; her son, Derrick Smith; and siblings, Sarah Lee Gardner McMackin, Frank Gardner Jr., Mendal Caldwell Gardner, Elease Gardner Small, Virginia Gardner Douglas, Nettie Mae Gardner Fountain, Laney Gardner Lucas, Marion Gardner Newsome, and Max Alton Gardner.
Arrangements are under the care of Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.
