Stephen Nelson Hunter

Stephen Nelson Hunter, age 65 of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Wednesday evening, April 2, 2025, at his home. Born in Camden, S.C., he was the son of the late Jack Nelson Hunter and Shirley Coates Hunter. Mr. Hunter was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and retired in 2021 from Cassatt Water as Quality and Safety Manager after 42 ½ years of service. Prior to becoming Quality and Safety Manager, he had been Chief Operations Officer.

Mr. Hunter was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He especially loved the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jessie Phillips Hunter; 2 daughters, Shannon Walker and her husband, Timothy and Amy Young and her husband, Lee. He is also survived by his grandson, Trent Hunter who he adored and his canine companion, Grizzly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sheryl Ann Hunter.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the family home.

Funeral services for Mr. Hunter will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C. The Revs. Hunter Frye and Dale Myers will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Pallbearers will be John Bowers, Joey Boykin, Harold Cauthen, Justin Gates, Jarrett Greenway and Ashley Mangum

Memorial remembrances may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund, 603 Oak Ridge Church Road, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
