John Allen Cawley, 89, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Sunday morning, October 3, 2021, in MUSC Health, Lancaster Medical Center, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Waynesboro, Ga., he was a son of the late William Lindsay Cawley and Helen Beckham Cawley. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service. He also was employed with the DuPont Co. and retired after 22 years of service. Mr. Cawley loved to work in his garden, his yard and travel with his family. He was of Methodist faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Ann “Pat” Byrd Cawley of the home; 4 daughters, Patricia (Todd) Broughton, Angie Arant all of Kershaw, S.C., Tracie Dowey of Lugoff, S.C. and Cathy (Kenny) Ivey of Waycross, Ga.; a son, John A. Cawley, II, Kershaw, S.C.; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody A. Broughton; a son-in-law, Wayne Arant; 3 brothers, William Cawley, Joe Cawley and Jack Cawley and his sister, Sarah Mills.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Wednesday, October 6, 2021, with full military honors. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
