Shirley Elizabeth Clark Player of Heath Springs, SC, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the age of 81. Mrs. Player was born August 8, 1934, in Lancaster, SC. She was the daughter of the late Smith Elmore “Smut” and Josie Blackmon Clark. Mrs. Player was the widow of Jessie Laton Player, Jr.
Mrs. Player was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church where she served as pianist, Sunday school teacher and was over the food committee. She retired from Temple Baptist Church after serving as their pianist for 20 years. Mrs. Player loved to work in her flower gardens, do different kinds of crafts, but her favorite thing was music.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Darlene P. Gallman and her husband Bill of Murrells Inlet, Beth P. Morrison and Julie P. Catoe and her husband Steve all of Heath Springs; a sister, Peggy C. Bowers and her husband William of Kershaw; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Smith E. Clark, Jr., Samuel E. Clark; a son Robert Laton “Bobby” Player and a great granddaughter, Trenity Nevaeh Simpson.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2016, in Faith Baptist Church Memorial Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Larry Plyler.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.
