Shannon C. Jones

Our Loving Mother and Nana, Shannon Correll Jones, age 81, of Camden, S.C. and formerly of Heath Springs, S.C., went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 24, 2023. Shannon was the widow of Johnnie W. Jones, Mother to Tilara Jones Monroe and her husband, Ted and Beloved Nana to Catie and Kyle Chappell.

By her side until her last day was her dear and faithful friend of 60 years, Loretta Cole. Loretta’s daughters, Greta Cole Hough, and Becky Cole Cnesich were Shannon’s bonus daughters and she loved them as her own.

Shannon was a faithful and devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church in Heath Springs. She served through the years as both Sunday School teacher and VBS teacher and gave of herself through her artistic capabilities in many ways including developing their Chrismon Christmas Tree.

For 32 years she touched the lives of thousands of her first-grade students at Kershaw Elementary School. Shannon made many lifelong friends here whom she dearly loved, especially “The Golden Girls”.

Her true gift was in making her world, along with the lives of her friends, a beautiful place. She graced all of those who knew her with the gifts of her heart and hands, painting, sewing, and designing. Her creative touch was a gift she loved to share.

More than anything, Shannon loved bestowing her talents on her grandchildren. She made “Superman capes” and “Pocahontas dresses” to the delight of Catie and Kyle. As they held her hands in her final days, they thanked her not for the birthday and Christmas gifts through the years but for the gift of her love and the time she spent with them, making memories that they will carry forever.

Shannon made all who knew her feel unconditionally loved and valued. Her last words to her beloved family were “I love you more”.

The family will gather Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., to greet friends in the fellowship hall of Salem United Methodist Church, Heath Springs, S.C. for a time of reflection and celebration of her life.
