Funeral services for Sara Mungo Gardner, 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Douglas Bowling will officiate.
Mrs. Gardner, widow of Willis Stanley Gardner, died Wednesday, April 27, in The Oaks, Orangeburg. Born in the Flat Creek Community, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Connie and Hattie Portia Pittman Mungo. She was a homemaker, seamstress and an avid gardener who loved to share with family, friends and neighbors. Mrs. Gardner was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where she served in various capacities.
Sara was known not only for her roles in life as a sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, but for the spirit she brought to each. Her loving and caring nature, her sacrificial giving and her wonderful sense of humor, will continue to touch lives as she lives in our memories.
Surviving are two daughters; Jennifer G. Pettit and her husband Ron of Orangeburg, Portia Gardner-Smith and her husband Mark Smith of Gainesville, FL., three grandchildren; Chris Gardner Pettit and his wife Christy of Mt. Pleasant, Jeff Pettit and his wife Wendy of Sandersville, GA., Adam Smith of Gainesville, FL., four great grandchildren; Henry Gardner Pettit, Jordan Pettit, Abbey Pettit and Mia Pettit. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Ernestine Stogner and Estese Knight and three brothers; Bruce Mungo, Lewis Mungo and Ansel Mungo.
The family will receive friends, Friday, April 29, from 6:00 to 7;30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.
