Sara Byrd Catoe, 88, widow of James Cecil Catoe, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015. She was born on March 22, 1927 in Lancaster County. She was the daughter of the late James and Sally Gardner Byrd. Sara retired from Grace Bleachery and was a faithful member of Sand Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was active in WMU, taught three and four year olds in Sunday School, and taught the Adult Class in Training Union. She also taught the Junior class in Vacation Bible School, and was Mother of the Year in 1982. Sara loved going to Sunday School – The King’s Daughters class where she served as secretary for many years. She loved reading her Bible and devotions and doing word search puzzles. She was one of the first volunteers to work at KARE. Sara loved cooking for her “boys” Monday through Friday. Surviving are five sons; Jimmy Catoe (Hazel) of Lancaster, Dan Catoe (Myra) of Columbia, Mark Catoe (Delores), Dennis Catoe (Janet), and Kim Catoe all of Kershaw; seven grandchildren; Chris Catoe of Rock Hill, Grant Catoe of Columbia, Cary Pardue of Heath Springs, Luke Catoe of Barnwell, Heath Catoe of Miami, FL., Courtney Jones of Clarksburg, MD, and Adam Catoe of Rock Hill; six great grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Nilson (Paul) of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Olivia Roach, Bernice Craig, and Betty Reeves, and two brothers, Jack Byrd and Billy Byrd. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00 am in Sand Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Joyner will officiate. Memorials may be made to Sand Hill Baptist Church, 6895 Hwy. 341, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 The family will receive friends Friday, May 29, at Baker Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
