Russell Clyde Bransford Iii

Russell Clyde Bransford, III, 68, of Camden, S.C., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Russ was born in Virginia on November 19, 1955, to Russell and Christine Bransford. The oldest of three children, Russ grew up in Virginia and South Carolina. In high school he was an all-around athlete, playing tight-end in football, center in basketball and pitcher in baseball. He graduated from Clemson University in 1978. While at Clemson, he had a profound spiritual experience with God and became a Christian. He joined Young Life and the Navigators. It was through the Navigators that he met the love of his life, Jamie Menzer. They married nine months later.

Russ and his family lived in Southern Pines, NC, where he helped found the Sandhills Presbyterian Church. He lived his life as a Christian, in his actions and his kindness to others. For 39 years, Russ was a sales representative for woodworking tool manufacturers. He traveled the southeast and formed many lifelong friendships with his customers and colleagues. He enjoyed his time on the road and the fellowship of his friends.

Russ was devoted to his family. Of course he taught all four of his daughters to play sports. He was always there for them, raising them with kindness and wisdom, and encouraging them all along the way. He was excited for his youngest daughter’s wedding next month. He also loved being a grandfather, and was so proud of his oldest grandson’s graduation from high school this coming spring and the birth of his granddaughter, who just turned one. He absolutely adored all five of his grandchildren. He was a wonderful son and brother. He regularly visited with his mother and sisters and loved the time he shared with them.

Russ and Jamie moved to Lake Wateree in Camden. There he discovered his passion for kayaking. He would kayak a couple miles every day, which he said was a good workout for an old man. Russ was incredibly humble, smart, witty and had a way with words. He enjoyed writing poetry, puzzles and loved his Clemson Tigers.

When Russ was diagnosed with cancer in December 2023, God continued to provide for the family by placing exceptional medical providers and people in their life. The family would like to personally thank Dr. Charlie Butler and nurses Ann and Maya from South Carolina Oncology Associates, Dr. Manish Kadian for his heartfelt words, and Prisma Hospice, especially nurse Dell and Myrthis, for their incredible kindness and compassion. The family is also so thankful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from friends and family. To Mike Fraser and Dennis Catoe, your friendship and support has meant so much to the family.

Russ is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jamie, their four daughters and grandchildren. His mother, and two sisters, and extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Russell Clyde Bransford II and his grandson, Samuel Everett Cauthen.

A private family burial will be held in Kershaw City Cemetery.
