Robert Mercier, 79 of Bethune, SC, passed away, Monday, July 6, 2020, at Springdale Healthcare, Camden, SC. Born in Torrington, CT, he was a son of the late Ludger Mercier and Aileen Hebert Mercier. He was a licensed practical nurse and a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era as a medic. Before moving to Bethune, Mr. Mercier enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion Post # 29 Bishopville. He also received great joy playing Santa Claus for schools and churches for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothea Arlene Decko Mercier of Bethune; children, David John Mercier and his wife Jessica of Barkhamsted, CT, Suzanne Helen Duval and her husband, Melvin of Bethune, John Joseph Novajasky of Torrington, CT, Kathleen Anne Deane and her husband James of Lehigh Acres, FL, Michael Thomas Novajasky and his wife Heidi of Torrington, CT, Thomas Stephen Novajasky and his wife Wendy of Farmington, CT and Mary Margaret Hawkins and her husband, Brent of Torrington, CT; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Lee Mercier; a brother, Richard Rowland Mercier and a sister, Shirley Izbicki.

Funeral services for Robert and Dorthea Mercier on January 22, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish at 1 East Main Street, Thomaston, C.T. 06787.

The family will also hold a special rememberance service for Robert and Dorthea in Bethune, S.C. in the spring of 2021.

In addition on July 1, their wedding anniversary, the family will spread their ashes according to their wishes.

Services will be private.
