Robert Lewis Vincent

A service of worship celebrating the life of Robert Lewis, R.L. Vincent, 81, will be held Monday, December 28, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church. Burial will be private in the Kershaw City Cemetery.


Mr. Vincent died Friday, December 25, in Kershaw Health, Camden. Born in the Buffalo Township of Kershaw, he was the son of the late Leonard and Pet Catoe Vincent. Mr. Vincent was retired from the Dupont Co. He worked in the Florence Film Plant as a maintenance planner and was the auto appraiser for the Dupont Credit Union. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a former member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church for 59 years where he served in various capacities. He and his wife moved their membership to the First Baptist Church from Thorn Hill Baptist Church in order to be closer to their family. Mr. Vincent served in the US Navy.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years; Joan Sowell Vincent of the home, two sons; Larry Vincent and his wife Donna of Kershaw, Toby Vincent and his wife Vickie of Lugoff, six grandchildren; Jennifer Ellis (Russell), Susan Mullis (Tommy), Ben Vincent (Margie), Christie Whitehouse (Chad), Michelle Creel (Gilbert) and Tony Vincent (Claire), ten great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, five brothers; L.J. Vincent, Kershaw, David Vincent, Kershaw, John Vincent, Kershaw, Bruce Vincent, Birmingham, Alabama, Clarence Vincent, Kershaw, two sisters; Harriett V. Walker, Florence and Catherine V. Davis, Camden. He was preceded in death by a sister; Eva V. Gardner and two brothers; Frank Vincent and Curtis Vincent.

The family will receive friends, Monday, December 28, prior to the service from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the church.
