Funeral services for Robert Lee Anderson, 87, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June, 8, 2011, from the graveside in Kershaw City Cemetery.

Robert Lee (Bob, Brandy) Anderson formerly of Kershaw, SC passed away June 5, 2011, at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. He was born on
August 10,1923 in Chester, SC. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Whitaker Anderson in 1942, who preceded him in death in November 1998. Mr. Anderson enlisted in the US Navy on June 7, 1942. While serving his country he took Basic Training at Norfolk, Va. and went to Quarter Master School in Newport, RI where he then was assigned to the staff of a 3 star Admiral aboard AGC USS Panamint. He took part in the invasion of Bauganville, Guam, Saipan, and Okinawa. He was declared an Honorable Discharge on September 22, 1945. Mr. Anderson played semi-pro baseball and basketball for Springs Mills 1946-1948. He moved to Charlotte in 1956 and then retired to Kershaw in 1987. There he worked at Smalls Food Center for 13 years. In 2000 he moved in with his daughter who lives in Mint Hill. Mr. Anderson was an avid sports fan. He loved baseball, football and Nascar racing. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

He was the son of the late James and Mary Anderson of Heath Springs, SC. He is preceded in death by his brother JW Anderson and sisters, Helen Faile and Betty Kee . He is survived by his children Wayne (Judy) Anderson of Indian Trail, Darnell Stallings of Monroe, Gina Kinley of Mint Hill and Chris Anderson of Mint Hill. His grandchildren are David (Kelly) Stallings, Brian (Caroline) Stallings, Shannon Anderson, and Tyler Anderson. His great grandchildren are Shaey, Bre, Emery, and Parker Stallings and Abbie Grace Anderson and a brother; Junior Anderson of Lancaster, SC. The family would like to thank Jackie Curry, Megan Wyrick, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Church, Neil & Sylvia Stribling, Mr. Elbert Gregory and Francis Marshall for the joy they brought to their fathers life. They would also like to thank the staff at Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital for the care given to their dad. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the charity of their choice.
