The Celebration of Life Service for Robert Bobby Byrd, 80, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 8, 2008, in Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Rev. Jamie Rogers, Rev. Don Knight, Dr. Charles Rabon, and Rev. Robert Thompson will officiate. Burial will be private.
Mr. Byrd died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at his home. Born in Jefferson (Kershaw County) he was the son of the late Walter Pet and Susie Mungo Byrd. Mr. Byrd was retired from Dupont as an Electric Technician. He was a member of Kershaw Second Baptist Church, where he served as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Discipleship Training Director. He was also a Mason and Shriner. He was a World War II Army Veteran, where he served as Radio Dispatcher. He was a graduate of Radio and Television Technical School.
Surviving are his wife ; Margie Reeves Byrd, one son; Keith Byrd and his wife Janet of Ladson, one daughter; Renee' Horton and her husband Dean of Kershaw, one grandson; Tyler Horton of Kershaw, three granddaughters; McKenzie Horton of Kershaw, Jennifer Hiott of Ruffin, Devon Sarvis of Cottageville. Also surviving are two brothers; Miller (Mickey) J. (Mary Ann) Byrd and Walter (Ann) Byrd, both of Lancaster, two sisters: Pauline (Rufus) Shealy of Columbia and Helen B. (Milton) Knight of Lancaster, one stepsister; Mattie Byrd of Columbia. He was preceded in death by two brothers; William and Cephie Byrd, one sister; Dorothy B. Davis, one stepbrother; Fred Byrd.
The family will receive friend after the service in the Kershaw Second Baptist Church Life Center or other times at their home, 4096 Fork Hill Road.
