Rheubin R. Brunson, Jr.

Rheubin R. Brunson, Jr., age 94, of Lancaster, S.C., died, Saturday morning, January 13, 2024, at his home. Born October 10, 1929, in Wilmington, N.C., he was a son of the late Rheubin R. Brunson, Sr. and Louise Casey Brunson and the widower of Alice Lamb Brunson.


Mr. Brunson was a retired agent for Norfolk Southern Railway. He served in the Naval Reserve and then the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a former member of First Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C. where he served as a Deacon, and served on the finance committee. Mr. Brunson was a current member of Calvary Church, Charlotte, N.C. He was a private pilot and served in the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol. He was the South Carolina Wing Aerospace Education Officer, former Commander of the Lancaster Squadron and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Brunson was a lifetime member of the South Carolina Breakfast Club, former member of the Experimental Aircraft Association 242 and the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association. He also served on the Lancaster County Airport Commission, the Lancaster County Tax Appeals and Zoning Commission and Kershaw Town Council.


Mr. Brunson is survived by his son, Ryan Brunson and his wife, Monty of Spartanburg, S.C.; his daughter, Ann Brunson Horton and her husband, Ricky of Heath Springs, S.C.; six grandchildren, Anna Grace Gates and her husband, Matt, Casey Clyburn and her husband, James, Amanda Bayne and her husband, Chris, Jessica Metts and her husband, Steven, Christopher Davis and Lance Horton and his wife, Maegan; seven great grandchildren; his sister, Roma Jay and his best friend and caretaker his cat, Gracie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Alice Lamb Brunson and his brother, David Brunson.


The family will receive friends, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 2:00 o’clock P.M. to 3:00 o’clock P.M. in BAKER CONFERENCE CENTER, 105 North Minor Street, Kershaw, S.C. and other times at the home of his daughter.


The funeral service to remember and honor his life will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 o’clock P.M. in the Conference Center. Rev. Bobby Joyner will officiate. The burial will follow in Kershaw City Cemetery, 190 Kirkland Ave., Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
