Rev. Keith Derrick Coates, 52, of Kershaw, S.C., passed away, Sunday afternoon, September 26, 2021, at MUSC Health-Lancaster Medical Center, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of William Lloyd “Bill” Coates and the late Bobbie Jean Roberts Coates.

Keith was a graduate of North Greenville College and attended Wingate College. Keith was a retired Baptist minister and was currently working with Jumping Creek Restoration, a specialty furniture repair company. He loved to work and enjoyed teaching people new things. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 30 years, Lee Ann Robinson Coates; 3 children, Cory Glenn Coates, Michaela Diana Coates and Jonathan Daniel Coates all of Kershaw, S.C.; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea Lee Coates, Colton Gabriel Coates and Clayton Gunner Coates; 2 brothers, Dr. William L. “Billy” Coates of Gainesville, GA. and Don Coates of Kershaw, S.C. and his father and mother-in-law, Charles Ray and Linda Robinson of Kershaw, S.C.

A service to celebrate his life will be held, Wednesday morning, September 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 210 N. Matson Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067. The Revs. Steve Mackey and Adam Wright will conduct the service.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Memorial contributions in memory of Keith may be made to DeKalb Baptist Church, 2034 DeKalb School Road, Camden, S.C. 29020 or Thorn Hill Baptist Church, 2587 Kershaw Country Club Road, Heath Springs, S.C. 29058.
