Rev. Jerrell Hugh McKinney, 87, of Kershaw, passed away, Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Lancaster Health and Rehabilitation, Lancaster. Born in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of the late Walter N. McKinney and Lois Rhouda McKinney. He served his Lord as a minister of the gospel for 56 years. He first served Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for 3 years, Kershaw Second Baptist Church for 36 years and Lakeview Baptist Church for 17 years, where he was a member. Rev. McKinney received his master’s of divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Texas. He was an avid collector and a charter board member of the Lancaster County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, now known as Counseling Services of Lancaster. He served this board from 1974 to 2018. Rev. McKinney was a passionate Andrew Jackson Volunteer fan, supporting all sports, serving as past president of the Booster Club. Rev. McKinney proudly supported the Andrew Jackson Volunteers, the Carolina Gamecocks and Yankees Baseball.

Surviving are his 3 children, Sheri M. (Richard) Watson, Danny H. (Karen) McKinney and Jeff W. (Kim) McKinney; 7 grandchildren, Kristen M. (Byron) Clay, Brittany W. (Josh) West, Chase (Megan) Watson, Westley (Caroline) McKinney, Andrew (Emily) McKinney, Rachel (Josh) McKinney and Bridget McKinney; 5 great grandchildren, Reece Clay, Watson West, Blakely Watson, Emilia Watson and Graham McKinney and a sister, Mary (Leonard) Nix.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marian Wilson McKinney in 2010.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, in the sanctuary of Kershaw Second Baptist Church. Reverend McKinney’s grandson, Rev. Westley McKinney and longtime friend, Mr. Bobby Richardson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the graveside, following the committal.
