Hilton F. Batts was born in Wilson, NC on February 10th , 1931 and born again in August, 1957. Hilton was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Hilton passed away peacefully with his devoted wife Peggy, children, Carlton and Sheri and granddaughter, Ashlyn, by his side. Hilton was a SGT. in the US Army Airborne Division, and very proud to have served in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Although a native of Wilson, NC, Hilton spent most of his life in Charleston, SC where he was a self employed printer for over 25 years and in Kershaw County, SC where he became an ordained minister in 1992 and loved preaching the gospel. He was a musician, poet and song writer and enjoyed his ministry of playing his guitar and singing gospel music. Hilton was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Lee Batts and his father Carl F. Batts. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy West Batts, his son Carlton L. Batts of Charleston, SC and Daughter, Sheri Batts Davis (Jim) and his grandchildren, Ashlyn and Landon Davis of Yorktown, Va. and Corinne Davis Olds (Lee) of Richmond, Va. Funeral services will be held at Providence Baptist Church in Kershaw, SC on Saturday November 29th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 3334 Providence Rd. Kershaw, SC 29067 or Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy. Charleston, SC 29407.
