Graveside services for Phyllis Edith Doolittle Tidwell, 85 of Bethune and formerly of Walden, NY will be held Saturday, May 12, at 10:00 o’clock a.m. in Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Tidwell passed away Saturday, May 5, at the home of her son in Kershaw. Born in Walden, NY, she was a daughter of the late William and Mable Sebring Doolittle. Mrs. Tidwell was a licensed practical nurse and had worked at the Thad E. Saleeby Development Center in Hartsville. For many years she and her late husband fostered 34 children and adopted 2 of the children. Mrs. Tidwell was a member of Bethune Baptist Church. She was very proud of her late husband of 37 years, Benton Lavern Tidwell for serving 23 years in the United States Air Force, serving in 3 wars. He predeceased her in 1990.
Surviving are 5 children, Judy Tidwell of Oak Harbor, WA, Sharon Fratus and her husband Mike of Fort Mill, Bill Tidwell of Newberry, Michael Tidwell and his companion Linda Mitchell of Kershaw and Robert Tidwell and his wife Lori of Woodstock, GA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and special friends, Mary and Richard Chamberlin.
Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday, May 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to sign the registry and also those desiring to view the deceased.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
