Patricia Byrd Gardner

Patricia Byrd Gardner, age 74, of the Flat Creek community, Kershaw, S.C., passed away peacefully, Monday, October 3, 2022, with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of 54 years to Richard O. Gardner, Jr.

Mrs. Gardner received her master’s degree from Winthrop College and was a former educator in Lancaster County. For many years she was a member of First A.R.P. Church, Lancaster S.C. and recently returned to her home church of Flat Creek Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C. She was very active in both churches. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. Patricia especially cherished the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Richard O. “Trey” Gardner, III and his wife, Susan, Patrick A. Gardner and his wife, Lindsay and Brittan R. Gardner and his wife, Nicole; seven grandchildren, Laurel, Joseph, Will, Max, Lilly, Brauton and Bradock; her sister, Nancy B. Baker and her husband, Bucky and her brother, Joey Byrd and his wife, Pamela. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merley J. Byrd and JoAnn Hilton Byrd; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard O. Gardner, Sr. and Viola Catoe Gardner; a granddaughter, Trey and Susan’s daughter, Emily Grace and her brother, Kenny Byrd.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday evening, October 5, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 6, 2022, from the sanctuary of Flat Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Bart Miles and Dr. Kyle Sims will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
