Olin James Taylor

A funeral service for Olin James Taylor, 78 of Kershaw, SC, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Abney Baptist Church. Rev. Scott Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Taylor went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2016. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Willie Noah and Lessie Outen Taylor. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service earning the rank of First Class GMG 1. He was a member of Abney Baptist Church and most importantly he loved his family. Mr. Taylor enjoyed watching wrestling, golf and NASCAR racing. He also loved old cars and old coins.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Polzin Taylor; 2 daughters, Sherrie (Jerry) Gardner and Ann (Jack) Champion; 3 grandchildren, Stephen (Amy) Gardner, Stephanie (Dave) Harrington and Jack Champion, III; 3 great grandchildren, Chase, Ethan and Jacob; 4 sisters, Jean (Mike) Vincent, Mildred (W.T.) Phillips, Betty (Ken) Faulkenberry and Judy (Sonny) Carnes; a brother, Billy (Shirley) Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Taylor and 2 nephews.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, January 12, one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
