A funeral service for Myrtis Ann Faulkenberry Sowell, 86 of Kershaw, will be held at 11:00 a.m. ,Monday, July 20, in Thorn Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Coates will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Sowell, widow of Paul Harold Sowell died Saturday, July 18, in the A. Sam Karesh Nursing Center, Camden. Born in Kershaw, she was a daughter of the late William Hoyt and Ella Jeanette Thompson Faulkenberry. Mrs. Sowell worked at Winn –Dixie for a period of time but retired as the long time manager of Griffin’s 88 Store. She had been an active member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for the Young Adults, a choir director and in many other various capacities. She was also a member of the King Alfred Garden Club and loved to bowl.
Surviving are two daughters, Ginger (Ken) Kozelski of Camden, Amy (Ike) Sigmon of Liberty Hill; six grandchildren, Harold Wayne Sowell, Jr., Paula Taylor, Grady Catoe, Stephanie Thompson, Ella Sowell and Dustin Catoe; eleven great grandchildren, a number of great- great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pam Sowell and a son-in-law, Stephen Williams. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Wayne Sowell, Sr.; a daughter, Wanda S. Williams and two brothers, William Cecil Faulkenberry and Ray Franklin Faulkenberry.
The family will receive friends following the burial in the church Fellowship Hall.
