Miriam Geraldine Strickland

Funeral services for Miriam Geraldine Strickland, 79, will be held Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. in Timrod Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Revs. Jeremy Ussery and Jackie Knight will officiate.

Mrs. Strickland died Tuesday, February 27 at her home. Born in Nichols, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Daisy Ford Powell. Mrs. Strickland was an active member of Timrod Baptist Church where she taught GA’s, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Bethune Woman’s Club. Mrs. Strickland enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Jack Strickland; son, Robert Wayne Jernigan of Columbia; daughters, Diane Strickland of Lancaster, Teresa Brown of Chapin and Lisa Gardner of McBee; 7 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; sisters, Jean and Cherry; brothers, Harold and Larry. She was predeceased by a grandson, Howard and 3 brothers, Jerry, Carlysle, and Jimmy.

Memorials may be made to Timrod Baptist Church, 4227 Timrod Road, Bethune, S.C. 29009 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 2, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in Baker Funeral Home and following the service in the church fellowship hall.
