Michael Ellis Cook, Sr., age 71, of Kershaw, passed away, Friday evening, March 20, at KershawHealth, Camden, S.C. Born in Sumter, S.C., he was a son of Sarah Coleen McCoy Cook Reyling and the late Ellis Pike Cook. Mr. Cook was a graduate of Maywood High School, attended the Baptist College of Charleston (now Charleston Southern University) and received a bachelor’s degree from Limestone College. He was married to the late Judy Catoe Cook, who predecased him, November 29, 2018.
Surviving in addition to his mother and his step-father, Jack Reyling are 3 children, Michael Ellis Cook, Jr. and his wife, Lane Deason Cook of Hickory, N.C., Benjamin Parrish Cook of Camden, S.C., James Willis Cook and his wife Christine Ariana Cook of Bluffton, S.C.; 4 grandchildren, Catelyn McCoy Cook, Caroline Ellis Cook, Samuel Elias Cook and Wade Marshall Cook; a sister, Christine Cook Mixon and her husband Dean Mixon and several nieces and nephews.
Michael took pride in showing his children and grandchildren how to fish and cook. He was a long-term generous supporter of the Central High School Booster Club and athletics, and his love for his sons and grandchildren spilled over into his avid support of their many endeavors. He was a beloved State Farm Insurance agent in Pageland, S.C. for over 30 years. Michael was a devoted husband to his late wife of 50 years, and they enjoyed spending time together with family and friends at the beach and on the water, especially the Edisto River.
A small family memorial service will be held at 1:00 o'clock p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2020, in Baker Funeral Home Chapel, 210 E. Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067. An Inurnment committal service will follow at 1:30 o'clock p.m., in the Kershaw City Cemetery, 190 Kirkland Ave., Kershaw, S.C. 29067
