Funeral service for Melvin Hazel Catoe, 85, will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 5, 2009, in Midway Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Catoe died Friday, April 3, 2009, in Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Hazel John and Bessie Robinson Catoe. He was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Mr. Catoe served in many capacities in his church by serving as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and former chairman, Pulpit committee and RA leader . He was a member of Abney Masonic Lodge # 211 and a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are two sons; Rev. Mike Catoe and his wife Sarah of Graniteville and Jimmy (Clyde) Catoe and his wife Wanza of Lancaster, two grandchildren; Kia Hicklin and her husband Jimmy of Richburg, Carly Catoe of Lancaster and a great grandson; Evan John Hicklin. He was preceded in death by five sisters; Maggie Bell Taylor, Wilma Baker, Jessie Lee Baker, Inez Catoe, Trudy Sims and three brothers; J.L. Catoe, Jimmy Coleman Catoe and Eugene Catoe.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, April 4, 2009, from 4 to 6 P.M. at Baker Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son; 1973 Charles Ave., Lancaster.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church, 7760 Old Jefferson Highway, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
