Funeral services for Melvin Earl Mangum, 87, of Bethune, SC, will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Friday, March 16, in the sanctuary of Timrod Baptist Church. The Revs. Jeremy Ussery and Tim Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mangum died Sunday evening, March 11, at Charles George VA Medical Center, Asheville, NC. Born in Bethune, he was a son of the late Henry Thomas Mangum and Bleeka Mae Joyner Mangum. He retired as the meat market manager for Winn-Dixie. Mr. Mangum was a faithful member of Timrod Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. Mr. Mangum also served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict.
Surviving are his loving wife, Eunice Sullivan Mangum; 2 daughters, Charlene M. (Buddy) Kelley of Unicoi, TN, Christy M. (Tyler) Brock of Hendersonville, NC; 8 grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Babbie Mangum of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by a son, Dwayne Mangum; a grandson, Blake Kelley; 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
The family will receive friends immediately following the committal in the church Family Life Center and other times at the home.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Mangum may be made to Timrod Baptist Church, 4227 Timrod Road, Bethune, SC 29009.
