Graveside service for Mary Jane West Sowell, 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 in Kershaw City Cemetery. Rev. Bryant Fersner will officiate.

Mrs. Sowell, widow of Melvin Sowell died Wednesday in KershawHealth, Camden. Born in Bethune, she was the daughter of the late George Gregory and Virgie Boyce West. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a homemaker. Mrs. Sowell was a graduate of Bethune High School, loved to bird watch and working crossword puzzles.

Surviving are 2 daughters; Linda S. Faulkenberry (Gene) of Lancaster, Ann S. Boone (Phillip) of Kershaw, 2 sons; Larry Sowell (Joann) of Kershaw, Samuel Sowell of Florence and a special friend; William Goins of Florence, 5 grandchildren; Tracie Faulkenberry, Josh Faulkenberry, Amy Woodward, Heather Maccue and Chris Sowell, 9 great grandchildren; Allen, Jacob, Trevor, Maranda, Caroline, Thomas, Mason, Dale and Tachria, 2 sisters; Aline Mobley of Bethune, Syble Sullivan of Lexington and a brother; Buck West of Bethune. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Joe West, Heyward West and 2 sisters; Lilian Catoe and Ethel Broughton.

The family is at the home, 308 S. Minor Street, Kershaw.
