Mary Catherine Baker

Mary Catherine Cauthen Baker, 96, of the Pleasant Hill community, Heath Springs, S.C., passed away, Sunday evening, August 16, 2020, at her home. Born in Heath Springs, S.C., she was a daughter of the late James Earl Cauthen and Thelma Jane Watson Cauthen. After finishing high school, she worked for U.S. Rubber and later for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Charlotte. She retired from Springs Industries in Lancaster, S.C. and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Baker was Christian and a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at the church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and a friend to all. Mrs. Baker was also an excellent cook.

Surviving are 2 sons, Roddy (Cheryl) Baker and Mark (Amy) Baker all of Heath Springs, S.C.; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Caitlin) Baker, Brandon Baker, Matthew (Shanna) Baker, Susie Baker, Brooke Hoopaugh and Ashli (Brady) Newell; 7 great grandchildren, Jake, Joel, Luke, Ella Wren, Ella Rose, Emberleigh and Ian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Baker and 3 brothers, James Cauthen, Sidney Max Cauthen and Richard Cauthen.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday morning, August 19, 2020, prior to the service beginning at 10:30 o’clock a.m. at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C.

A funeral service will be held following the visitation, beginning at 11:30 o’clock a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Buddy Thomas, minister of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will follow the service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Minor St., Heath Springs, S.C.
