Marion Excel Baker, age 84, of Lancaster, S.C., passed away, Monday, November 11, 2024, at his home. Born in Great Falls, S.C., he was a son of the late William Howard Baker and Frances Elizabeth Varnadore Baker. He was married to the late Naomi Yarborough Baker.
He is survived by; 3 children, Marion Dairrick Baker, Susan Logan Funderburk, and Barbara R. (Kent) Phillips; 5 grandchildren, Stephen Thompson, Kipp Phillips, Aaron Logan, Gabe Funderburk and Jeremy Baker; 9 great grandchildren, Makayla Thompson, Zachery Thompson, Cameron Logan, Everly Logan, Ellis Logan, Ryker Phillips, Luca Phillips, Oliver Funderburk and Declan Funderburk and his brother, Rev. James Howard Baker and his wife, Sherry. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Pressley Baker and 2 sisters, Laura E. Stacks and Virgie Thompson. Mr. Baker was a longtime welder and a member of White Springs Baptist Church, Lancaster, S.C. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, S.C. Rev. James Howard Baker, Rev. Brad Threatt and Eddie Thompson will officiate the service.
Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Baker may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or White Springs Baptist Church 1249 Grace Avenue, Lancaster, S.C. 29720.
