Services for Marguerite Truesdale Clyburn, 96 of Kershaw will be held, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Jesse Hegler will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following in the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, 2986 Cane Mill Rd., Lancaster. A private family burial will be held prior to the service in the Kershaw City Cemetery. Mrs. Clyburn, widow of William Hampton Clyburn died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Morningside Assisted Living, Lancaster. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Hampton and Hattie Jordan Truesdale. She retired as a administrative assistant and bookkeeper for Kershaw High School and Andrew Jackson High School. She was lovingly called Mama Dot by her family and close friends and was affectionately known as “Miss” Dot by the staff and care givers at Morningside. She loved gardening, raking her yard, reading, shopping, spending time with her friends, and cooking for her family. She was also an avid card player and greatly enjoyed the friends in her bridge club. Mama Dot had a close relationship with her grandchildren and cherished time spent with them. She especially enjoyed visits by her great grandchildren. Though inactive these past few years, she was the oldest member of the Kershaw Presbyterian Church and for many years was a devoted member. She served her church in many capacities. She received the Honorary Life Membership from the Presbyterian Woman and had served as Moderator of the Women of the Church. She was also a former member of the Kershaw Garden Club. She was known for her loving, youthful, and energetic spirit. Surviving are 2 daughters; Sandra C. Catoe, MD and Jane C. Holliday both of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren; Karen Catoe, Earl Catoe, Jr., Jane Catoe, William Catoe and Brent Holliday, 5 great grandchildren; Kathryn Catoe, John Catoe, Elliott Catoe-Griffis, Jake Shore and Max Shore,and a sister-in-law; Grace T. Clyburn of Kershaw. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Clyburn to the Kershaw Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 611, Kershaw, SC 29067. Friends may call, Monday, July 15 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, July 16 prior to the committal service until 11:00 at the funeral home for viewing.
