Malcolm James “M.J.” Holden, 88, of Heath Springs, S.C., passed away, Thursday, October 20, 2022, in White Oak Manor, Lancaster, S.C. Born in Kershaw, S.C. he was a son of the late Malcolm Cleveland Holden and Alma Vermel Coates Holden. He was retired from the construction industry and a member of Center Grove Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C. He enjoyed playing the dobro and listening to bluegrass music.
Mr. Holden is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Sue Catoe Holden of the home; 2 daughters, Sherry Holden Branham and her husband, Sidney of Summerville, S.C., Elaine Herndon and her husband, Marshall of Hartsville, S.C. and Sally Faulkenberry of Kershaw, S.C.; a son, Tony Holden and his wife, Delores of Kershaw, S.C.; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Ashley Holden.
A service to remember his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Rev. Mitchell Austin will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family will greet friends briefly following the service at the funeral home.
