A service to celebrate the life of Lynne Lawson Barfield, 83, of Kershaw, SC, will be held at 11:00 o’clock a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Kershaw. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. A private family burial will precede the service in Kershaw City Cemetery.
Mrs. Barfield, loving wife of Douglas A. “Doug” Barfield, Sr., passed away Monday, December 26, at PalmettoHealth Baptist Hospital, Columbia, SC. Born in Cynthiana, KY, on February 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late William and Virginia Van Dyke Lawson. Mrs. Barfield was a retired educator, having taught at Kershaw High School, Andrew Jackson High School and the University of South Carolina at Lancaster spanning 25 years. She was educated in the American High School, Frankfurt, Germany and received her BA from Winthrop College. She also was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Douglas A. “Doug” Barfield, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Kershaw, SC; 3 daughters, Judith B. Mobley and her husband Martin of Rock Hill, SC, Virginia C. Barfield, PhD of Columbia, SC, and Holly B. Robinson and her husband Jack of Columbia, SC; 6 grandchildren, Meredith Westbrook and her husband Jeff of Rock Hill, SC, Elizabeth Mobley of Greenville, SC, Lawson Barfield and Stuart Barfield of Kershaw, SC, Will Robinson of Greenville, SC, and Brice Robinson of Clemson, SC; a great granddaughter, Abigail Westbrook; a niece, Laurin Kier of North Carolina and a nephew, William Rogers of California. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dr. Judith Brill of Durham, NC.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal rescue charity of your choice or the charity of your choice.
