Funeral services for Lorene Vincent Gardner, 89 of Kershaw will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the sanctuary of Buffalo Baptist Church. The Revs. Ray Lowe, Donald Coppedge and Chaplain Brian Ogburn will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 pm in the church Family Life Center and other times at the home, 4382 Fred Gardner Rd., Kershaw. Mrs. Gardner, widow of William Mendel Gardner died Monday, April 28, 2014, at her home. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Gus Vanderbilt and Virgie Mae Catoe Vincent. She retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. Mrs. Gardner enjoyed reading, quilting, working crossword puzzles, fishing and music. She also worked for the US Naval Dept. in Intelligence during World War II and was a graduate of Rock Hill Business College. Surviving are 3 daughters, Linda Rumple and her husband Buddy of Kershaw, Betty Smith and her husband Dennis of Lugoff, Carol Crain of Elgin; 2 sons, Mike Gardner and his wife Kathy of Kershaw, Jerry Gardner and his wife Sherrie of Kershaw; 9 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Nell Lucy of Metairie, LA, Katie Hinson of Ridgeway and Ruby McCaskill of Camden. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Gardner’s memory to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020.
