Lena Elliott Brown, 98 of Kershaw passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the home of Reid and Wanda Brown, her caregivers for the last few years. She was born in Kershaw County to the late John and Pearl Ray Elliott on November 22, 1915. Lena is survived by her son, Hubert Brown (Betty) of Lancaster; two grandsons, Tim Brown (Letha) of Kershaw and Reid Brown (Wanda) of Lancaster; six great grandchildren, Brianna Martin (Joey) of Fort Mill, Derek (Alicia), Caleb and Ryan all of Kershaw, Ross and Bode’ of Lancaster; two great- great grandchildren, Allison and Colin of Kershaw; a sister, Betty Bowers of Columbia; two brothers, Dean Elliott of Lancaster and Paul Elliott (Lorraine) of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Margaret Elliott of Camden, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Brown in 1988; two sisters, Dorothy Brengle of Tampa FL and Cleo Driggers of Columbia; a brother-in-law, Ray Bowers of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Mary Elliott; a niece, Deborah Julian of Columbia; a nephew, Bob Elliott of Kershaw, and a great niece, Karen Partin of Florida. Lena and her husband owned and operated the Royal Café and McGill’s Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street to the delight of her many nieces and nephews. Later, Lena served as the Cafeteria Manager at Kershaw Elementary School. She was devoted to her church, The First United Methodist of Kershaw, where she played both the piano and organ. She was a active member of various organizations and groups associated with the church. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 o’clock p.m., Sunday afternoon, October 12, 2014, from the Chapel of Baker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 o’clock p.m. at the funeral home. The interment service will immediately follow the service in the Kershaw City Cemetery and those attending the service are invited to join the family. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 305 West Church Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067 or the charity of one’s choice.
