A celebration of life service to remember the life of LaRue Owens Merritt, 84, of Camden, S.C., will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Monday, June 29, 2020, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Preacher Cotton Pate will officiate.
Mrs. Merritt passed away, Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Kershaw Health Karesh Long Term Care, Camden, S.C. Born in the DeKalb community of Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Ethel Jones Owens. Mrs. Merritt was a former secretary at Andrews Air Force Base and of Baptist faith.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Owens Horton and his wife Deborah; 2 grandsons, Geoffrey Seth Horton and his wife Naomi and Joshua Scott Horton; a sister, Karlene Leviner and 3 nephews, Cliff Leviner, Chris Pachnik and Zack Copeland. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas K. “Kemper” Horton and her second husband, Kenneth E. Merritt; 2 sisters, Mary Copeland and Jackie Pachnik and a niece, Pam Leviner Lair.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at her son’s home.
