Funeral services for Laney Gardner Lucas, 75, of Kershaw, will be held at 11:00 o’clock am, Tuesday, October 16, in the sanctuary of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Bart Miles will officiate. Burial will be private for the family in the in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the private family burial in the church sanctuary and other times at the home.

Mrs. Lucas, loving wife of the late Wayne Lucas, who predeceased her in 2012, passed away, Saturday, October 13. Born in Kershaw, she was one of thirteen children of the late D. Frank and Mayo Byrd Gardner. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and was a faithful member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. She served her church in many various capacities and loved watching her grandchildren play sports. She also loved to garden, working in her flower beds and yard. Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Surviving are her 2 daughters, Carmen (Reed) Marshall, Sonya (Buddy) Adams; 5 grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Gilstrap, Mallory Marshall, Natalie Marshall, Kinsley Adams and Joshua Adams; 3 sisters, Virginia Douglass, Sybil (Jimmy) Smith and Frankie Phillips; 3 brothers, Randall (Libby) Gardner, Max (Maree) Gardner and Doug (Harriett) Gardner. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents and husband by siblings, Elease Small, Mendel Gardner, Nettie Mae Fountain, Sara McMackin, Marian Newsom and D. Frank Gardner, Jr.
