Kenzie Mac Hinson

At his mountain home with his beloved wife and feeling blessed by a wonderful life, Kenzie Mac Hinson went home to be with his Lord and Savior and a host of family and friends early in the morning of Friday, August 30, 2013. Born February 1, 1938 in Kershaw, SC, he was a son of the late James Boyd (J.B.) Hinson and Mary Alyce Hilton Hinson. Kenzie was a member of McKinney Cove Baptist Church in Bakersville, NC, where he had relished serving as Chairman of Property & Grounds for a number of years and in other roles including Bible School teacher. He was also a former member of First Baptist Church Kershaw where he had energetically served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, RA Leader and coach. He was self-employed as a life insurance agent for over 35 years with Franklin Life Ins. Co. and Midland National Life where he won numerous top awards for outstanding production. He was active in the community via Hinson Agency, Andrew Jackson area school board and booster club, and a life member of Abney Masonic Lodge 211 in Kershaw and Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, SC. A talented athlete and natural leader from his youth, Kenzie was a graduate of Kershaw High School, where he was captain of the football and state championship baseball teams. He played competitive tennis for many years, and his love of sports at all levels was life-long. Kenzie never met a stranger – he loved talking to everyone. His hobbies included woodworking, making birdhouses and feeders, and attending craft festivals. In past years he enjoyed raising cows on his farm in Kershaw. He was also a Clemson fan having been a member of IPTAY for many years. At his mountain home, he enjoyed feeding and watching birds, especially his many hummingbirds, and entertaining numerous visiting family and friends with stories with his wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by many as a trusted advisor on many subjects and many aspects of life. He is survived, loved and dearly missed by his wife of 21 years, MaeBeth Small Hinson, two daughters, Susan H. (Gary) Cohen of Easley, and Jane H. (Len) Carter of N. Augusta; three grandchildren, Brad Cohen, Amelia Carter, and Ben Carter; a sister, Marilyn Hinson of Kershaw, his brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews & great nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a step-son, Chad Byrd, and a brother, Douglas Hinson. Special thanks to Mitchell County Hospice and many friends who provided support especially during recent months. The celebration of life service for Kenzie will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, September 2, at McKinney Cove Baptist Church, 1160 McKinney Cove Rd., Bakersville, NC.
