Keith Dewitt Blackmon, 89, of Bethune, S.C., passed away, Tuesday morning, February 15, 2022, at MUSC Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden, S.C. Born in Waxhaw, N.C., he was a son of the late Bruce Dewitt Blackmon and Lizzie Squires Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon retired from the Kendall Company, Bethune Plant. He was a faithful member of Timrod Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and choir member. Mr. Blackmon was a founding member of Bethune Rural Water and a member of James Leroy Belk American Legion Post # 17, Camden, S.C. He was an avid gardener. He grew beautiful flowers, especially roses, azaleas and also vegetables. Mr. Blackmon also served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eloise Huggins Blackmon; 2 daughters, Deborah Blackmon Jenkinson and her husband, Roger, Pamela Blackmon Hemphill and her husband, Frank; a son, Keith Dewitt Blackmon, Jr.; 4 grandchildren, Trey Hemphill and his wife, Cameron, Matthew Jenkinson, Elizabeth Wilson and her husband, Tyler and Blake Jenkinson. He is also survived by 2 nieces, Cindy Booth and Sharon Sturdivant and their families who he loved dearly and many beloved animals. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joy Blackmon Watkins and her husband, Ted.

A funeral service to remember and honor his life will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Saturday afternoon, February 19, 2022, in the sanctuary of Timrod Baptist Church. Rev. Jeremy Ussery will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends briefly, immediately following the burial service in the church Fellowship Hall.
