June Byrd Bowers

Funeral services for June Byrd Bowers, 73 of Westville, will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Friday, June 7, at Refuge Baptist Church, Kershaw. Rev. Evan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Mr. Mike Byrd speaking.

Mrs. Bowers, loving wife of the late Roddy Lee “Pops” Bowers passed away, Sunday, June 2, at Prisma Health Richland, Columbia. Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the late William H. “Buddy” Byrd and Eva Knight Byrd. Mrs. Bowers retired from Springs Industries and was a faithful member of Refuge Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, reading, flower arranging and working in her yard.

Surviving are her son, Roddy Bowers, Jr. and his wife Melissa; 2 grandchildren, Ashley Bowers and Brandon Bowers; honorary grandson, J.P. Faulkenberry; 2 great grandsons, Bryce Fletcher and Corbin Schram; 3 sisters, Patricia Cawley, Glendora Jones and Betty Jean Nyberg; 2 brothers, Charles Byrd and Mike Byrd. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Bowers and 3 sisters, Judy Byrd, Sue Burnside and Peggy Davis and 2 brothers, William E. Byrd and Joseph Byrd.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, June 6, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Voncile Sims and also, Friday, June 7, one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 o’clock p.m. at the church.
