Joy, 92, died peacefully while she slept Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in Karesh Rehabilitation, Camden, S.C. Born in Waxhaw, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lizzie Squires Blackmon and Bruce Blackmon. She was the widow of Ted Watkins. Joy was retired from DuPont, Camden Plant, after many years of service to the company.
Services for Joy will be held Monday, July 19, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Timrod Baptist Church, Bethune, S.C. A time of visitation will be held Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Baker Funeral Home, Kershaw, S.C., from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Surviving is her daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Booth of Aiken, S.C.; 2 granddaughters, Erin (Scott) Truitt of Aiken, S.C. and Ashley (Will) DesChamps of Charleston, S.C.; 4 great grandchildren, Cannon Truitt, Rowan Truitt, Penn DesChamps and Charlotte DesChamps. Also surviving is her brother, Keith (Eloise) Blackmon of Bethune, S.C.
Joy was a true joy! She loved to have a good time. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, and riding around her pond. She loved meeting new people and often invited them to spend time at her pond. Joy loved puzzles, cooking and Bojangles’ sausage biscuits. Joy especially loved her church and the Goldenrod gatherings. Joy was fun loving and very generous. She was adored by her family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
