Joseph Wayne Byrd, Sr.

A funeral service for Joseph Wayne “Joe” Byrd, Sr., 72 of Kershaw will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Pastor Cotton Pate, Rev. Jackie Knight and Mr. Mike Byrd will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd died Tuesday, December 29, at his home. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late William H. “Buddy” and Eva Knight Byrd. He retired from Springs Industries and was of Baptist faith. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing and taking trips to the mountains.

Surviving are 3 children, Donna (Scott) Strait of Lancaster, Joseph (Debbie) Byrd, Jr. of Hartsville; Rhonda (Alvin) Moseley of Chesnee; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Betty Nyberg of Columbia, Glendora Jones of Kershaw, Patricia (Alan) Cawley of Kershaw, June Bowers of Westville and 2 brothers, Charles (Bridget) Byrd of Panama City, FL and Michael (Melinda) Byrd of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Peggy B. Davis, Sue B. Burnside and Judy Byrd and a brother, William E. Byrd.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday January 2, beginning at 12:00 noon at the funeral home and other times at the home, 611 East Church Street, Kershaw.
