John Ward Connell

John Ward Johnnie Connell, 82, died Friday morning, November 20, 2009 in Kershaw Health Medical Center, Camden after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kershaw City Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Quay W. Adams. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Connell was the owner and operator of Connell Oil Company for many years. His generosity and caring for his customers in their time of need was well known throughout the community. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He attended First Baptist Church and was on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Lancaster and later First Citizens Bank of Kershaw. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be dearly missed.

He was predeceased in July 2004 by his wife of fifty-four years, Oveida Adams Connell. Surviving Mr. Connell are daughters, Jo Ellen Connell Hegler, and her husband, John Phillip Hegler, and Patricia Connell Owings, and her husband, Ralph Seer Owings, M.D.; two granddaughters, Carrie Ellen Hegler and Rebecca Connell Owings.

The family expresses their deep appreciation for the love, care and support to the following ladies who cared for Mr. Johnnie over the past four years: Mrs. June Bowers, Mrs. Linda Faulkenberry, Mrs. Shirley Hall, Mrs. Mildred Hefner, Mrs. Glendora Jones and Mrs. Dorothy Truesdale.

The family also wishes to thank the nurses, C.N.A.'s and other staff of 2nd Surgical West of Kershaw Health Medical Center for the excellent care they provided during his hospitalization.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 Pine Street, Spartan burg, South Carolina 29302 or to the charity of one's choice.
