John Vernon Faile, Sr.

Funeral services for John Vernon Faile, Sr., 97, of Kershaw, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, at First Baptist Church. Rev. Bryant D. Fersner will officiate. Burial will follow in the Kershaw City Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Mr. Faile, loving husband of Elizabeth Cole Faile died, Saturday, July 28, at Springs Memorial Hospital, Lancaster. Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late John Manuel and Annie F. Faile. Mr. Faile served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member and ordained deacon of First Baptist Church and a member of the choir for many years. He was also a 66 year member of Abney Lodge # 211 and a former member of the Eastern Star. Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years are 2 sons, Vernie Faile (Reba), Ricky Faile both of Kershaw; daughter, Marilyn Faile Webb (Tommy) of Key Largo, FL; 4 grandchildren, Scott Webb (Lesley) of Pineville, N.C., Laura Webb of Johnson City, TN, Leann Snipes (Jonathan) of Lancaster and Allison Twitty (Carl) of Hampton, VA; 1 great grandson; a sister, Myrtice Hunter of Columbia and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 6 sisters, Daisy Roberts, Mae Haskett, Irene Mungo, Odessa Faulkenberry, Ruth Byrd and Willie Maude Vincent. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Church Parlor and other times at the home, 215 N. Matson Street, Kershaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building and Grounds Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 67, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.
