John A. Green

John A. Green, age 81, of Lancaster, S.C. passed away, Friday morning, November 29, 2024, at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center, Lancaster, S.C. He was born on August 13, 1943, to the late Thomas Furman Green and Mary Evelyn Cunningham Green. John was a loving son, brother, uncle, nurse and friend to all. John was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and obtained the rank of Major in the United States Army.

He demonstrated compassion for mankind and always extended a helping hand never to want anything in return. He took many nurses under his wings and showed them the qualities of a caring nurse. He was passionate about animals, having many over the years. He cherished the time he spent on his property, loving the land, cultivating new things. He was somewhat of a historian sharing stories to entertain. While a student at the University, he met Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. He toured with them for a period. John loved music and knew all the names of the songs. He occasionally sang and was a good dancer, especially shagging. John enjoyed a good game of bingo and played a few poker machines, when they were legal and some not. His kind soul, sweet spirit and warm smile will never be forgotten in the lives he touched.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory a sister, Ann Green Owens of Chapin, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Meg Owens Schelble, Kevin Owens, Lynn Green Nye, Billy Green and Lori Green Sjoberg; great nieces and nephews and a host of friends and colleagues. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Robert “Bobby” Green.

The family will greet friends, Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2024, from one o’clock until two o’clock in the afternoon at Baker Funeral Home, 210 East Hilton Street, Kershaw, S.C. 29067.

A funeral service to remember and reflect on his life will be held immediately following the visitation on Thursday, at two o’clock p.m. in the afternoon from the chapel of Baker Funeral Home.
